This is for *bdunn1342 for winning #PhantomFans' latest contest. She asked for something with Phantom, Tanz, Sherlock and zombies. I believe each element should be included, though the zombie part is a bit vague... And the whole thing evolved into a musical Halloween party on the way. Hope you like, anyways! Also submitting to #Musical-fans' Halloween Art Jam. Happy Halloween, everybody!
So, it's the Phantom as Enjolras, Glinda and Elphaba as Sherlock and John, Angel and Collins as Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney, Count von Krolock and Sarah as the Phantom and Christine and Christine and Raoul as Sarah and Count von Krolock (or maybe Krolock Jr, actually... I guess he felt the fellow vicomte's style suited him better). Plus Matilda, Gavroche and Annie in a bit less specific costumes!
Drawing and colouring Christine's Tanzsaal meets Masquerade costume was the best! Colouring with watercolours on a separate paper in general is a pain, though. Removing the colour that went on the wrong side of the line takes twice longer than the actual colouring...
Amazing! Itīs so amazing to see Tanz Der Vampire and Phantom of The Opera in the same drawing. And I love to see Count Von Krolock and Sarah together, and I have to ask: do you ship those two?
As for the shipping... I'm not sure. I don't really think, like some others do, that Sarah was "only a snack" to the Count. He might not love her or anything like that, but I think he might see something else in her than just her blood. Maybe she reminds him of someone he used to love, or maybe she brings a glimmer of excitement into his dark existance... As for Sarah, I don't think she's in love either, but she's infatuated, flattered that a man like Count von Krolock pays attention to her... So, no, I don't think they're in love, exactly, but I think there's something in there. Maybe, later on, von Krolock adds Sarah into his list of victims he regrets killing – even though for Sarah it actually might mean freedom.
Sorry, that turned into a full-blown novel. Thanks for the interesting question! What do you think?
I ship those two so hard... I donīt think they were in love at first, I think they saw each other like a rescue boat, I think the Count saw in Sarah redempcion, a bright candle to his darkness plus the virginal tasty damsel, and she saw him as the one who would set her free. At first there are only expectations, but then grows the attraction, and then maybe love. This part is really confusing, because it depends in the interpretation of each actor and actress. The reason why I love this ship so much is Totale Finsternis, because Sarah offers her neck to the Count, but I donīt think sheīs like "Yeah, I going to be a vampire", in my conception itīs an impulse act, she is losing herself to the Count, and really trusting him (he could have killed her if he wanted to), but he doesnīt bite her, some people say he is saving the fun for the ball, but he tried to bite her during the invitation scene and the only thing that stopped him was Alfred screaming; maybe she appealed to the human side that still exists deep down his soul, and I do like to believe that he was impressed with the fact that she did not fear him, that maybe she could belong in every way to him, so he controls himself and try to be as most gentle as he can since he doesnīt know how to deal with her in that very moment, and by this moment is more than clear that Sarah is not the cliche innocent leading lady, sheīs smart, curious and amibicious, he finds himself enjoying the moment and being a little more spontaneous, so he envelopes her in his cape in a very protective way. My theory is that their relantionship got the emocional attachment in a slow way. Also, I donīt think she is in love with Alfred. Itīs a real romantic way of looking things up. They being in love, itīs really unique, because itīs not that Twilight stuff, it shows that love is not always noble, that lovers have their own ambitions out of the romantic field. Perhaps I fantasize a lot, but Tanz gives their fandom the opportunite to create their own theorys, and I think mine is valid one. Forgive if it sounds like those horrible teenage novels. Let me know your opinion about my opinion.
Very interesting points! I like the rescue boat theory, the bright candle to his darkness... And her not fearing him! Argh. Careful with it, you'll talk me to shipping them too, soon! But yeah, definitely agreeing with Sarah not being in love with Alfred. I think she mainly sees Alfred as a way out of her dull life – until the Count appears...
But yeah, you're right, it's very much up to interpretation. In the Finnish version, I think, there was more this stalker/prey dynamic. Which version(s) have you seen? The Finnish one's the only for me, so far, so that might influence my thoughts!
(By the way – in the Finnish show, the guy who played Herbert had this theory that Sarah's ballroom dress used to belong to Herbert's mother. Hmmm...)
Well, itīs really sad that I never got to watch it live And itīs my favorite musical! I watched it from Youtube, the original version with Steve Barton and Cornelia Zenz (the whole show was avaiable for a really short time, but there are ways of downloading it from the internet), but I also watched what I could from the other productions, and the original Vienna one is my favorite and the one that influenced my thoughts. But I really would like to see more of the Finnish production (even from behind a computerīs screen), I love this stalker/prey dinamic that you talked about, itīs really intense since we get to see this vampire love for games (but the stalker can be trapped in his own net). Also I really love the chemistry between the Finnish actors, Finnish Krolock has such a strong look in his eyes.
And I find really interesting this theory about the dress belonging to his mother (then maybe the Count is trying to rescue something that he lost). But I prefer the ideia of his interest is only for Sarah and the qualities of her personality, because most of those vampire/human ships have this thing of making the human part special in a way (for example: reincarnation of the dead wife/bride, he canīt read her thoughts, sheīs a fairy, sheīs the key to give the most powerful vampire all of his strenght), itīs like the human girls arenīt good enough and it loses the human side. Thereīs a funny thing about Herbertīs mom, itīs another theory that came from my crazy mind, I always pictured her as this horrible woman who couldnīt stand how feminine was her son, that the Count had this arranged marriage without love and was sick of the way she treated their son, so when he and Herbert turned into vampires, he was more than happy to leave her behind. But this was an ideia a had for a fanfiction that I never wrote.
Really sorry for the madness, but itīs so great to share those ideas. Before I forget, have you seen Steve Barton singing Totale Finsternis? Itīs really great.
