I got an inspiration for this while writing a nostalgia-filled entry about Cats - my first musical love - for my blog.
Even though I don't really love the show as much as I used to, I have to tip my hat for the 2007-08 Finnish production. The costume designs were great. Instead of doing the easy thing and replicating the traditional costumes, they really went for a different approach with these fun, colourful, detailed pieces for each character. I loved that!

Here are Munkenström (usually known as Munkustrap) and his mate Rontinriesa (Rumpelteazer). I know, not traditional either - but they were a cute couple in this production!
The costumes were a lot of fun to draw, wonder if I should draw some other characters from this, too... Also, it was fun colouring this with coloured pencils for a change, I haven't done that in ages. I don't know why, but they just felt right for this drawing.

Cats isn't mine.

So colorful! I love how you did their hair. I don't know if you see this, but something about this costume design just makes me think "Godspell Cats!"

Heh, I've seen clips of the Finnish production and it looked really interesting -- it's great when directors and costumers go for a whole new approach instead of just copying what everyone else has done already. I know a lot of people don't like the more humanlike costumes, but hey, creative license, right?
Munkustrap and Rumpleteazer seem like an... interesting couple, too. :D

Even though these costumes look magnificent and fun, I wouldn't have chosen it for CATS... I mean, the whole reason behind the traditional costumes are that they are supposed to look like cats! It's he same with Cats OC's which often ends up with all the colors of the rainbow, even though this would be impossible on a cat - get it?

Great drawing, though! :3

I can see where you're coming from... But I still think colourful costumes are fun for Cats. Humans playing animals isn't that realistic to begin with, so I think the fantasy aspect can as well be a little exaggerated. This was the first version of Cats I saw and I just adored it! But each to their own. :)
And yeah - if you're doing OCs for the traditional Cats universe, using a lot of colours makes no sense since that version's supposed to look somewhat more realistic...

But thanks! :aww:

I think the amount of colorful cats OC's is much of the reason why I'm not such a big fan of colorful CATS-costumes at all... Really, they're okay, but my head just won't accept it xD

These costumes are very unique :D It's always neat to see various worldwide productions, and I especially love how colorful these costumes are. You should draw some other ones from this production, these looks great ! :)

:aww: Thanks! Let's see if I'll ever get around drawing more of these, maybe... Shouldn't have started with my two favourite characters, my motivation's all gone now! ;)
